Glossary of portable generator
Portable Generator:A portable generator can provide electricity to power lights and other appliances no matter how far you are from the mains. It works by turning the movement of a piston into electrical energy.
OHV:overhead value. An overhead valve (OHV) engine, also called pushrod engine or I-head engine is a type of piston engine that places the camshaft in the cylinder block (usually beside and slightly above the crankshaft in a straight engine or directly above the crankshaft in the V of a V engine) and uses pushrods or rods to actuate rocker arms above the cylinder head to actuate the valves.
4-stroke engine:A four-stroke engine is characterized by four strokes, or reciprocating movements of a piston in a cylinder:
intake (induction) stroke
compression stroke
power stroke
exhaust stroke
Carburetor:the part of an engine that mixes fuel and air, producing the gas that is burned to provide the power needed to operate a vehicle or machine
Cylinder: the tube-shaped part of an engine inside of which the piston (= part that causes the fuel to produce power) moves up and down
Piston:an engine part, usually a short, solid tube or round, flat object, which moves up and down or forward and backward inside a cylinder, and causes other parts of an engine or machine to move. |
